Genius Loci – Spirit of Place
"Genius loci” is defined as the distinctive atmosphere or pervading spirit of a place.
D. H. Lawrence observed, “…Different places on the face of the earth have different vital effluence, different vibration, different chemical exhalation, different polarity with different stars: call it what you like. But the spirit of place is a great reality.”

For many years I’ve traveled the
US
, covering much of the West, visiting mountains and deserts, Native American sites, national parks, and other special places. Each location creates in me a particular impression due to its environment…altitude, latitude, atmosphere, angle of light, culture, etc.
I am constantly amazed by the differences between regions and their effect on my perceptions and emotions. These places have enriched my life and inspire my work.
